What changes the price
- Glass. Plain float is about $40/m²; low-iron about $145/m²; double glazed about $200/m²; low-E about $220/m²; laminated up to $320/m².
- Thermal break. A thermally broken frame costs more than a standard one but lowers the Uw, often from about 2.2 to 1.2–1.8 W/m²K. When it is worth it.
- Size and opening type. Fixed glass is cheapest per m²; awnings, casements, tilt & turn and lift & slide doors cost more for the hardware.
- Wind and bushfire ratings. Higher wind classes and BAL ratings need heavier frames and thicker or toughened glass.
- Installation. Glaziers charge about $40–$65 an hour depending on the state, plus removal of old windows in a renovation.
- Order size. A whole house in one order is cheaper per window than one or two windows, because freight and setup are shared.
