Supply-only windows are fitted by your builder or installer like any aluminium window: check every frame against the signed shop drawings on delivery, pack and fix it square and plumb, flash the head, dam the sub-sill ends and seal the frame all round. Don’t rely on sealant in place of flashings.
When the delivery arrives
- Count frames and panels against the signed shop drawings.
- Check sizes, opening direction and handing on every window.
- Inspect every pane for chips, scratches and cracks, including edges.
- Store frames upright, off the ground and covered, with protective film left on.
Before the window goes in
Check the opening is square: the two diagonals should match. Fit the sub-sill and reveals for your wall type, whether that is brick veneer, weatherboard or cladding, double brick or blockwork. The reveal depth you gave us when you measured sets the reveal width on the drawings.
Packing and fixing
Pack at every fixing point so the screw doesn’t pull the frame out of shape. Fix through the frame into the studs or brick ties, following the fixing positions on the shop drawings. Check the frame is plumb, level and square, and that sashes open and close freely, before the final fixings go in.
Flashings and waterproofing
Install a head flashing over the window and dam both ends of the sub-sill so water can’t run off the ends into the wall. Don’t rely on sealant alone: it ages, and it only works as well as it was applied. Keep weep holes clear.
Sealing and finishing
Fill and seal the gap between frame and wall all the way round. It matters for draughts, for energy ratings and for noise. Fit architraves and reveals last.
Handover
Adjust hinges, stays and rollers so every sash closes firmly. Peel off the protective film soon after install, because sun bakes it onto the frame. Keep the AS 2047 labels on until the final inspection.
Questions builders ask
Do you install the windows?
No. We supply only. Your builder, carpenter or window installer fits them, the same way as any other aluminium window.
What should I check when the windows arrive?
Count every frame against the shop drawings, check the sizes and opening directions, and look over every pane for chips and cracks. Photograph and report anything wrong before you install, because it is far easier to fix before the window is in the wall.
Can sealant replace flashings?
No. Sealant ages and depends on how well it was applied. Use head flashings and sub-sill end dams, and treat sealant as a second line of defence.
What will the building surveyor ask for?
Usually the window’s AS 2047 rating label and the glazing details for each window, plus energy figures if the NatHERS report relies on them. See imported windows compliance.
